Former WBA Flyweight Champion met current WBA Interim Flyweight Champion Luis “El Nica” Concepcion in a quick one-sided affair in Panama City, Panama. With a strong record of 50 Wins against 2 losses and 1 Draw with 20 Wins by knockout, the ageing Dnkaosan was seen as a cagey fighter looking to maintain his relevance. Luis Concepcion dominates Denkaosan Kaovichit
Coming out to “Eye of the Tiger” from the movie Rocky III, Denkaosan seemed to acknowledge his underdog status despite being the 3rd-ranked flyweight in the world by the WBA. A hostile audience pelted Denkaosan with “boos” as he entered the ring foreshadowing the violence to come. Luis Concepcion, defending his interim flyweight belt, came out to cheers before demonstrating that there are entertaining fights to be had in the 112 pound division.
Denkaosan came out trying to establish his jab while Luis opted to throw mainly power punches. A quick knockdown within the first minute came from a clubbing left hook as Luis sent Denkaosan to the canvas. Denkaosan tried to stage a comeback, but Luis Concepcion used digging left hooks to stagger his opponent. Denkaosan managed to stay up but with both gloves touching the ground, the referee stepped in for a standing eight count. Hurt but still game, Denkaosan tried to keep himself in the fight.
Having been knocked down twice, Denkaosan attempted to clinch and work Luis Concepcion’s body with hooks. Concepcion already demonstrated the power differential between the two however, and Denkaosan’s body attacks were met with a left hook to the head for the finish. Referee Rafael Ramos quickly called the fight as Denkaosan fell to the ground with a knockout loss. The audience showed their displeasure, pelting the ring with ice for such a one-sided affair as Luis Concepcion celebrated a quick victory over a veteran opponent with a back flip off the top rope.
Luis Concepcion versus Denkaosan Kaovichit
Moving to 22 victories with 17 wins by way of knockout, Luis Concepcion has made a strong statement by knocking out the former champion in the first round. At 24, he looks to have several large payday fights if he continues to add knockouts to his highlight reel. Being thoroughly dominated and looking lackluster in several of his last fights, Denkaosan , at 34, may see his career wind down. He was never able to establish his jab, and Concepcion, while not possessing blinding speed, quickly overpowered Denkaosan through a higher work rate. Whether Denkaosan, a former champion, is able to come back to high level boxing, only time will tell.
